Gene McArtor, a standout first baseman at Missouri, returned as an assistant coach in 1969 before becoming head coach in 1974. Over 21 years, he led the Tigers to a 733-430-3 (.629) record, winning Big Eight titles and guiding six teams to the NCAA Tournament. McArtor coached 13 All-Americans and chaired the NCAA Baseball Committee during the College World Series' growth. Former ABCA president in 1991, McArtor has been inducted in multiple halls of fames including the ABCA Hall of Fame and University of Missouri Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame. He is also a Lefty Gomez Award recipient. He has served Mizzou in athletic administration and served as NCAA National Coordinator for Umpires. Remaining heavily active within the ABCA, McArtor serves on the Board of Directors and Hall of Fame Committee.
