Duane Banks led the Iowa Hawkeyes baseball team from 1970 to 1997, amassing a record of 810-575-4 (.583). Under his guidance, Iowa earned its sole College World Series appearance in 1972 and secured Big Ten championships in 1972, 1974 (shared), and 1990. He coached six All-Americans, 31 All-Big Ten selections, and 33 Academic All-Americans, with 57 players signing professional contracts. In 1981, Banks achieved a school-record 44 wins and garnered Big Ten and District Coach of the Year honors in 1990. Additionally, he managed Team USA at the 1985 Intercontinental Cup. Honored for his contributions, Banks was inducted into the ABCA Hall of Fame in 1992, the University of Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011 and the Northern Colorado Hall of Fame in 1999. Iowa's home field, Duane Banks Field, was named in his honor in 2001. Banks, who served as ABCA President in 1989, was also a longtime member of the ABCA Hall of Fame Committee.
