That season, Chapman set school and NCAA Division III records with 44 wins and 524 strikeouts, earning Laverty D3baseball.com and ABCA Division III Coach of the Year honors. Laverty has led the Panthers to six SCIAC Tournament appearances, two SCIAC Tournament titles, and four NCAA Regional berths. Despite a shortened season in 2021, the Panthers claimed their third straight SCIAC Tournament title, with Laverty achieving his 500th career win. Under his leadership, the Panthers have posted a .687 winning percentage and become a consistent contender in Division III baseball. Before arriving at Chapman, Laverty spent 14 seasons as Head Coach at the University of Redlands, transforming the program into a perennial contender. His teams won two SCIAC titles, posted nine consecutive .500 or better seasons, and set a school record with 30 wins twice. Laverty began his coaching career as an assistant at UC Riverside and in the Frontier League before taking the head job at Redlands.
