Rick Hitt enters his 27th season as the head coach of South Florida State College (SFSC) baseball, where he is the longest-tenured coach in program history. A 2022 inductee into the NJCAA Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame, Hitt is also enshrined in the Santa Fe College Hall of Fame and the Florida College System Activities Association Hall of Fame. Over his career, Hitt has guided more than 188 players to opportunities at four-year institutions or professional baseball.
Hitt has held significant leadership roles in the sport, including serving as NJCAA Baseball Coaches Association president, FCSAA State Baseball Chairperson, and Region 8 Men’s Director for Athletics. A member of the ABCA Board of Directors and Executive Committee, he served as ABCA president in 2022, becoming only the third NJCAA coach to hold this prestigious position.
As a player, Hitt pitched at Santa Fe Community College, leading the team to a third-place finish in the 1985 NJCAA World Series, and finished his career at St. Thomas University under Hall of Fame coach Paul Mainieri. Hitt’s coaching philosophy emphasizes character development, academic accountability, and passion for the game.
