Jeff Messer, entering his 40th season as the head coach of Slippery Rock University baseball in 2025, stands as one of the most accomplished coaches in NCAA Division II history. With a career record of 1,123-741-5 (.603), Messer is the all-time winningest coach in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) history and ranks 11th in Division II career victories. A 2023 ABCA Hall of Fame inductee, Messer has guided The Rock to 13 NCAA Tournament appearances, including four regional championships and trips to the College World Series.
A seven-time PSAC Coach of the Year, Messer has also led Slippery Rock to two PSAC Tournament titles, seven PSAC West regular-season championships, and 29 PSAC Tournament berths. Under his leadership, 13 players have been selected in the MLB Draft, with many others signing professional contracts. Off the field, Messer’s teams have excelled academically, consistently achieving a team GPA above 3.0 and earning numerous conference academic honors, including six PSAC Champion Scholar awards.
Beyond his legacy at Slippery Rock, Messer began his coaching career as an assistant at Westfield State and Oklahoma City University before taking the helm at The Rock in 1986.
