Ed Flaherty retired in 2024 after 39 seasons as the head coach at the University of Southern Maine, compiling a career record of 1,133-532-4 (.680). He led the Huskies to 26 NCAA Division III tournament appearances, including two national championships (1991, 1997), six additional College World Series trips, and 17 seasons with 30 or more wins. A two-time NCAA Division III National Coach of the Year and 11-time Little East Conference Coach of the Year, Flaherty was inducted into the ABCA Hall of Fame in 2005. USM renamed its baseball field "Ed Flaherty Field" in his honor in 2017 and retired his No. 26 jersey in 2024. A former All-American at the University of Maine, Flaherty’s legacy includes developing numerous professional players, including his son, Ryan Flaherty, a former MLB player and current coach.
