Erv Huether served as head coach of the South Dakota State baseball program from 1950-83. In 34 seasons, he amassed an overall record of 352-376-2 and led SDSU to six North Central Conference titles and a berth in the 1973 NCAA Div. II postseason. Twice Huether was named District Coach of the Year, in 1966 and 1969, and in 1975 he earned South Dakota College Coach of the Year honors. He coached four All-Americans and three other players who were drafted. Huether also served as an assistant football coach at SDSU for 22 years. SDSU's Erv Heuther Field was named in his honor in 1974.
