Over 28 seasons, Emory Bauer led the Valparaiso baseball program to a 361-245-2 (.595) record. His success was exemplified by his days in the Indiana Collegiate Conference when his VU teams won or shared 15 league championships. Bauer was named ICC Coach of the Year eight times and NCAA District IV Coach of the Year in 1964. His teams received 11 NCAA post-season tournament bids. Bauer is a member of the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. As VU's head football coach for 22 years, Bauer guided Crusader teams to a 110-80-7 record, including ICC titles in 1951, 1952, 1954, and 1964. He was selected as the ICC Coach of the Year in 1954 and 1964, and his 1950 and 1951 squads finished the regular season undefeated. Bauer coached VU to its only post-season bowl bid-the 1951 Cigar Bowl in Tampa. From 1946-1981, Bauer served VU in a variety of capacities. He was chair of the physical education department, athletic director, golf coach, and basketball coach. Bauer attended VU, where he played basketball, football and baseball. He graduated from VU in 1934.
