Everett Dean was the head baseball and basketball coach at his alma mater, Indiana University, from 1924 to 1938. In 1938, Dean was named head basketball coach at Stanford University, where he coached the team to the 1942 NCAA championship. He compiled a 167-120 overall record in 11 seasons.
Dean was named baseball coach at Stanford in 1950 and led Stanford's baseball team to the 1953 College World Series. In six seasons as a baseball coach, Dean was 125-83-4 (.599) from 1950 to 1955, winning the conference titles in 1951 and 1953. He is the only coach in NCAA history to win a College World Series baseball game and an NCAA Tournament basketball game for the same school, having accomplished the feat in 1953.
Dean is a member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 1965. He also has the distinction of being the first basketball All-American from Indiana University.
