Malcolm Pitt coached the University of Richmond baseball team for 37 years, posting a 426-257 record that included 16 state titles. Under his leadership, the Spiders won the Southern Conference title twice and tied for first twice.
Many of Pitt's students advanced to professional baseball, including Lew Burdette (Milwaukee), Porter Vaughan (Philadelphia Athletics), Bucky Jacobs and Herb Hash (Washington Senators).
Richmond's athletic director for 26 years before retiring in 1972, was named to the Helms Hall of Fame, the Virginia Hall of Fame and the University of Richmond Hall of Fame.
The university's baseball diamond was named Pitt Field in honor of the former coach.
