Florida Atlantic University
Inducted in 2026

John McCormack has been a defining figure in Florida Atlantic University baseball for more than three decades, shaping the program’s rise from a competitive regional contender to a nationally respected force. Completing his 17th season as head coach in 2025 and his 35th year overall with the program, McCormack has built a legacy grounded in consistency, player development, and a deep commitment to the university he has long called home. McCormack’s FAU career began in 1991, when he joined the coaching staff as an assistant. Over the next 18 years, he established himself as a vital architect of the program’s growth, first as an assistant coach and then during an 11-year tenure as associate head coach. In that role, he helped lead the Owls to 658 victories, seven NCAA Regional appearances, and a berth in the 2002 NCAA Super Regional—one of the defining moments in FAU baseball history. His work during this period earned national recognition, including the AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year Award in 2003. Since assuming the head coaching role in 2009, McCormack has upheld FAU’s longstanding standard of excellence while putting his own stamp on the program. During his tenure, the Owls have posted a 577-372-2 (.607) record, claimed four regular-season conference titles, won the 2013 Sun Belt Conference Tournament championship, and advanced to six NCAA Regionals. McCormack’s influence is felt not only in team success but in the individual achievements of his players. Recognized as a keen evaluator and dedicated teacher, he has guided 13 All-Americans, 21 All-Region honorees, two Conference USA Defensive Players of the Year, and a C-USA Newcomer of the Year. His exceptional talent development has helped 105 FAU players reach professional baseball, solidifying his standing as one of the most respected mentors in college baseball. His outstanding 2019 campaign, highlighted by a 41-win season, earned him both ABCA/Diamond Sports NCAA Div. I Central Region Coach of the Year and Conference USA Coach of the Year honors. He previously earned Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year recognition in 2010, further marking his influence across multiple eras and conference affiliations. Beyond his on-field accomplishments, McCormack is widely respected for his service to the sport. A 34-year member of the American Baseball Coaches Association, he has served as the ABCA’s NCAA Division I Baseball Chair and now holds the position of First Vice President on the ABCA Board of Directors. In recognition of his lasting contributions to Florida Atlantic athletics, he was inducted into the FAU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2019. Through decades of leadership, loyalty, and competitive success, John McCormack has become synonymous with FAU baseball and remains one of the most respected figures in the collegiate game.
