In 23 seasons as head coach, Pat Doyle’s San Joaquin Delta College teams won more than two-thirds of their games while qualifying for the California State Playoffs 17 times. Doyle got his coaching start at Lodi High School and Tokay High School, both in California, before being hired as an assistant baseball coach at San Joaquin Delta College in 1976. He took over as leader of the program the following year and remained head coach through 2000, compiling a 568-274 record (.675). Doyle has been very active in the international coaching community, serving as a manager and assistant coach for several teams, working for Major League Baseball International and other organizations. For two seasons (1990-91), Doyle also served as manager of the Anchorage (Alaska) Glacier Pilots. After serving as an assistant coach for Team USA in the 1994 Baseball World Cup, he was named head coach for the 1996 Republic of Ireland National team, managed the British national team in the 2010 European Baseball Championship, and was head coach of Team Israel in the 2011 European Baseball Championship Qualifiers. Most recently, he served as an assistant coach for Team Israel alongside head coach Jerry Weinstein in the 2017 World Baseball Classic. Doyle also worked as a consultant, coach, and envoy for Major League Baseball International and coordinated the now-defunct MLB Envoy Coach Program from 1993-2011. He helped build baseball fields and coaching programs and worked with players and coaches in North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. From 1999-2006, Doyle served as President of the California Community College Baseball Coaches Association (CCCBCA), which later established the Doyle Scholarship in his honor. He has also been a recipient of the National Baseball Congress Coach of the Year Award (1991) and the European Baseball Coaches Association Coaching Achievement Award. Doyle currently serves on the Board of Directors for Play Global! and the International Sports Group (ISG). He has also been an active speaker at numerous baseball clinics at the national and international level. In addition to the ABCA Hall of Fame, Doyle is a member of the CCCBCA Hall of Fame, the Stockton Athletics Hall of Fame, the Lodi Athletic Hall of Fame and the Anchorage Glacier Pilot Hall of Fame. The Santa Monica, California native is a graduate of University High School in Los Angeles. Doyle’s college career began at Los Angeles Valley College (Calif.) before transferring to Fresno State University (Calif.) where he was a pitcher. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Fresno State in 1967 and later earned a master’s degree from California State University Sacramento. Following his collegiate playing career, Doyle pitched in the Boston Red Sox organization and for the Lodi Guild Winemasters semi-pro team.
