Charley Gelbert served as the Lafayette College (Pa.) head coach for more than two decades, racking up a 307-172 career record. Eight of his teams played in the NCAA District II playoffs, and he guided five teams (1948, 1953, 1954, 1958, 1965) to the College World Series. No other college has earned as many District II (Mid- Atlantic Region) titles.
Gelbert produced seven All- America baseball players during his coaching career and was named District II coach of the year in 1966. That same year he was inducted into the Pennsylvania Hall of Fame.
