Russ Wright currently serves as head baseball coach at Fruitland High School. Wright's career coaching record is 879-328, with 21 conference championships and six Idaho state titles. Wright grew up in Rupert and played college ball at New Mexico State University and Azusa Pacific University in California. He began his coaching career as an assistant at Canyon Springs High School in Moreno Valley, Calif., in 1987, then moved on to the University of California at Riverside, working under Jack Smitheran, another Hall of Famer. After a stint at Payette High School, Wright returned to Rupert where he coached Minico from 1992-2002. He took the Spartans to the state tournament eight times, won Coach of the Year twice in Region III-5A and was named Idaho Coach of the Year and Division II, Region 7 National Coach of the Year in 2000. After a year as an assistant at Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario, Wright served as head coach at TVCC from 2002-05 before moving to Fruitland High in 2006. While at FHS, Wright has won six state titles, been named Snake River Valley Conference Coach of the Year three times and Idaho Coach of the Year twice.
