Bill McCarthy coached baseball at New York University from 1922 to 1961 and saw four of his players move on to the major leagues.
In his 40 years at N.Y.U., his teams compiled a record of 476-258-12 (.649). N.Y.U. won the Metropolitan Conference championship nine times with six of those coming consecutively from 1943 to 1948. His last champion, the 1956 team, was the only one to reach the College World Series.
