One of the most successful coaches in NCAA Division III history, Bill Holowaty retired with a 1,412- 528-7 (.727) career record. As of 2015, he ranked third in wins all-time among NCAA Div. III coaches and 11th among all coaches.
Holowaty led Eastern Connecticut State to four national championships and was ABCA/Diamond National Coach of the Year four times. He has the most victories of any coach - in any sport - in New England intercollegiate history.
Holowaty's legend was built upon consistency. In addition to winning four national championships, the Warriors posted at least 30 wins 28 times in the last 40 seasons under Holowaty and brought a streak of 11 straight 30-win seasons into 2012, when they fell one win shy of extending that streak. Only one Holowaty-coached team in 44 seasons ever won less than 60 percent of its games.
Under Holowaty, Eastern either won the Little East Conference regular-season or postseason championships or both in the same season 14 times in 16 years. Eastern won or shared LEC regular-season titles eight times in the first nine seasons of LEC competition.
A champion of instituting the NCAA Division III baseball championship in the mid-1970s, Holowaty served as ABCA president in 2006, was a long-time member of the ABCA All-America committee and was one of the founders of the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA). He currently as a member of the ABCA Board of Directors.
Holowaty is a member of the E-Club, Greater Utica Sports, National College Baseball and NEIBA Halls of Fame.
