Guy Murray took over the University of Nebraska-Kearny program in 1972, serving as head baseball coach for 29 years. Murray also was an assistant football coach in his early years at Kearney State. Murray retired in 2001 after posting 614 victories. He led the Lopers to 10 NAIA District 11 titles and was District Coach of the Year 11 times. His 1981 team set a school record with 37 victories, a .343 batting average and 554 runs in a season. A 1966 graduate of Eastern Montana College (now Montana State-Billings), Murray received the U.S. Baseball Federation Service Award and has been inducted into the UNK Athletics Hall of Fame.
