Rich Hofman came to Miami, Florida to teach and coach at Westminster Christian High School in 1967. There was not an athletic program at the school at the time. He developed a football, basketball and baseball program by his second year there along with his Athletic Director responsibilities. His baseball coaching career began in the Spring of 1969 when his first team went 2-13-1. He went on to lead Westminster Christian to eight State Championships and two National Championships (1992 & 1996). Coach Hofman has seen 45 of his players drafted from his high school roster and has sent 190 to college on scholarships. His two most famous former players are Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees and Doug Mientkiewicz who had a long career with many teams. Hofman left Westminster Christian after the 1998 season and three consecutive state titles to coach at Westminster Academy in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He won two state and national runner-up titles in his first two years. The five consecutive state titles is a state record. He coached at 6A Piper High School for two years and retired after 40 seasons. Hofman came out of retirement June 2010 to take on another challenge at University School of Nova Southeastern University. It will be the sixth decade he has coached. Coach Hofman moved on to a new chapter in his career by accepting the position of Athletic Director and Head Baseball coach at the new SLAM (Sports Leadership and Management Charter School in Miami, Fl. It is the first all sports elective course school nationally. It opened in August 2013. The latest stop in his career journey has taken him to Stoneman Douglas High School where he is the Bench coach under head coach Todd FitzGerald. Hofman has amassed 1,020 victories. He was named the "Coach of the Decade" for the 1990's by Baseball America and his program was recognized as one of the top 10 high school programs in the nation by Baseball America in their 10-Year Anniversary issue. He has been named "National Coach of the Year", seven times and is a member of five Halls of Fame. Coach Hofman hosts several national high school tournaments during the Spring high school season. Tournaments are held at several venues in the South Florida area. Camps, group and individual private lessons are also part of his baseball program.
