Bill Griffin led the Panola Junior College baseball program for 24 seasons. During his time at Panola, he amassed 639 wins en route to four zone titles, 14 conference titles, six regional titles and four state titles. He led the Ponies to the NJCAA World Series on four occasions and claimed the 1969 National Championship.
After his time at Panola, Griffin revived the program at Howard College in 1982 and continued his already storied career for nine seasons in Big Spring. During his tenure as the Hawks' skipper, he led the program to 347 wins, two conference crowns, two regional titles, one state title and the 1991 NJCAA National Championship.
With a lifetime record of 986-405, Bill Griffin has a lifetime winning percentage of .708.
Griffin was twice named National Coach of the Year and served as the President of the National Junior College Baseball Coaches Association from 1978-80.
During his coaching career, Griffin coached 23 All-Americans and had 64 players drafted into professional baseball. Forty of the 64 players were drafted during Griffin's tenure at Howard.
In the summer of 1976, Griffin was one of four coaches selected by the American Baseball Federation to coach in the World Baseball Games held in the Republic of China. These games were the forerunners of baseball being introduced into the Olympic Games in 1980.
Griffin is a lifetime member of the Texas-New Mexico Baseball Junior College Coaches Association for his leadership and contributions to the association.
Griffin is a member of the Western Junior College Athletic Conference Hall of Fame and the NJCAA Hall of Fame.
