Doug Minnis was head baseball coach at Bishop Ward High School (1956-1968) and Missouri Western State University (1970-1999). The founder of the Missouri Western program, he won 683 games there and took the team to the 1975 NAIA College World Series. Doug began his coaching and teaching career at Bishop Ward High School in Kansas City, Missouri in 1956. He was the assistant athletic director, assistant football and basketball coach and head baseball coach. Minnis moved to Missouri Western in 1969 as the assistant football coach and head baseball coach. He started the baseball program and built it from the ground up. He served as the head coach for the baseball team for 30 years, and in that time his teams earned six NAIA District 16 championships. Minnis was inducted into the St. Joseph Baseball Hall of Fame 2012, the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame 2011 and the Missouri Western Athletics Hall of Fame 1990.
