Dave Gorrie

UC Santa Barbara/Pepperdine University
Inducted in 1990

Dave Gorrie was inducted into the Pepperdine Hall of Fame in 1988 after coaching the Waves for 10 years. During that span he recorded 409 victories at the helm, a number that still stands as the program's all-time record. Gorrie took over as the Waves' manager in 1979 and proceeded to lead the team to a program-record 53 wins in his inaugural season. Pepperdine made its first-ever NCAA World Series appearance that year as well, one of two the program has made. The Waves would finish third at the championship. Gorrie was named WCC Coach of the Year in 1985 and 1987, and his teams won five conference titles during his managerial tenure. The Waves also advanced to NCAA postseason play six times and produced six All-Americans during his 10 years in Malibu. Gorrie's teams averaged better than 40 wins per season, with the Waves never suffering a losing season during his watch. The only two 50-win seasons in program history came with Gorrie at the helm. Prior to his time in Malibu, Gorrie was the coach at his alma mater, UC Santa Barbara, for 17 years, where he led the Gauchos to an SCBA title. Attending then-Santa Barbara College, he played both football and baseball as a collegiate athlete, before going on to play professional baseball in the Kansas City Royals organization. Gorrie is a member of both the Pepperdine and UC Santa Barbara Athletics Hall of Fame.
