Sal Taormina

Santa Clara University (CA)
Inducted in 1987

Former Santa Clara head baseball coach Sal Taormina amassed a record of 511-249 (.672) from 1965-79. Taormina and the Broncos reeled off Conference championships and NCAA tournament appearances for four consecutive years beginning in 1968, followed by three straight second-place finishes, setting the early tone that Santa Clara would be a name to respect in West Coast Conference baseball. He led the Broncos to a runner-up finish in the 1962 College World Series. In his final year as head coach at SCU, Taormina took the Broncos back to the NCAA tournament in 1978. To date, only Pepperdine holds more League titles, NCAA Tournament Appearances, and College World Series Appearances than the Broncos. Taormina is a member of the Santa Clara Athletics Hall of Fame.
