Martin "Pug" Marich was the legendary Phoenix College head baseball coach from 1961-78. For more than two decades, Marich was synonymous with Phoenix College athletics.
As head baseball coach, Marich led the Bears to national championships in 1962 and 1965. In 1982, he was inducted into the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Hall of Fame for his exemplary efforts in coaching. He was also the first junior college coach inducted into the ABCA Hall of Fame.
In 1985, Marich Field at Phoenix College was dedicated in recognition of his years of commitment and service to the college. In 2006, Marich was once again recognized for his commitment to students at Phoenix College when he was inducted into the school's Alumni Hall of Fame.
